Penguins are more hardcore than you!!

Watched 'March of the Penguins' the other night with JD, Paul and John.
It was really good. I've always loved penguins, but now I am awestruck by them.

Last night at work I said something that I realize now may have been insensitive. Just for my conscience's sake, I want to clarify that statement. In today's paper, the front page is a fatality, a 21-year-old driving a Sentra was killed. My co-worker said "There are so many accidents, that if I were a superstitious person, I would think Guam's roads are cursed."

My reply was, "Yeah they're cursed with fucking stupid drivers."
Irealize now that I may have sounded like I didn't care that there was another casualty on Guam's roadways--but it's the opposite. I do care, but after the initial shock and getting over the sadness of yet another life cut short, I revert to the anger that I feel every single day when I get cut off by five drivers when I'm going the speed limit--or get dirty looks from people because in an attempt to keep up with the flow of traffic, I am going only 5 miles above the speed limit.

How about this, when there are only two people on the road and clearly the person behind me is agitated that I am not going fast enough, that other person chooses to tailgate me for two miles before going to the lane that's been empty. When they finally do overtake me, they do so in a way where they use no signal light, and in a way that causes me to brake hard because I don't want to hit their car.

What I'm saying is, it's unfortunate that people die on the road, many are after all accidents. But being a seasoned Guam driver, I know that many people gamble with safety on the road because they are selfish. They bully responsible drivers, and because we are concerned with our own safety, and the safety of others we let them have their way. The most we can ask for, is please, when you engage in behavior on the road that is enough to get you killed, please, please, don't take anyone out with you.

Many people get into accidents everyday, even responsible drivers make stupid mistakes, but in these mistakes, the fact that they are responsible drivers helps people to be able to walk away from an accident with just some minor dings in their cars as opposed to not being able to walk away at all.

I'm just tired of the selfishness that pervades this island. I'm talking about all races here, and I've lived here most my life, so please don't give me any grief. People speak of hospitality and kindness, but where is that kindness on the roads? Where is that kindness even in church--where adults with no disabilities park in the few parking slots available for those who do have disabilities? Where was that kindness when my friend's car broke down, and instead of helping him out or simply ignoring him people pointed and laughed? Where is that hospitality when people vandalize monuments and schools and other things that other people hold dear? Don't give me shit about new cultures coming in and disrespecting Guam. Fuck that. Common curtesy is not a fucking culture. It's something that is just not being taught nowadays.

I mean it really pisses me off that innocent people in other countries die from terrorists, or trying to make a living, or getting persecuted for trying to make a statement about freedom. But here people are dying on the roadways, and for what statement? Oh wait, I think the statement is "Me first, I'm an asshole."

damn..that sucks..i don't remember guam traffic to be that crazy. though i could see that non-handicapped people parking in handicap spots happening on guam. things are just too lax there. order, regulation, all that bureaucratic "bullshit" i hate to admit is necessary. on guam, it's not that important cuz most people are just whatevers about it.. the islander's attitude i guess.. people get away with shit because they know someone or are related to someone who has power or cuz no one wants to do anything about it as long as its not bothering them. *shrug* i dunno. i babble. i have my issues with guam as a whole.

over here in cali, people on the road are nuts. they're not sure if its road rage or just random selection.. but basically people are getting shot at while driving in their cars on the freeway. Some people make it out okay but some people die as a result. They haven't been able to catch the people who do this which sucks even more. I can understand getting road rage and sitting in your car cussing the shit out of everyone.. but actually doing something, be it cutting someone off unexpectedly or shooting someone, is just plain stupid. ugh!

See that's so bad, but I think that's the direction Guam is heading. People yell at me to go or hurry up when I'm waiting for it to be clear not to themselves but cussing me out with their windows rolled down.

My friend said some lady got out of her car and waved a machete out the window. HAHA.
